PROJECT DIRECTION

Capture Filmmaking Project - A Three Day, Two City Creative Film Event

Capture is a unique filmmaking event that invites entire communities to share their creative videos with filmmaking teams in each city who are challenged to produce short films using the shared video. In 2015, the Capture expanded into Kansas City, making it a two-city, simultaneously produced event. Capture is planned to include a third city in 2016.

My Role

I served as primary liaison with city project partners which include film professionals, visual arts organizations, lead organizations in digital connectivity and asset development, government officials and partners with an interest in city place branding, and community leadership in the visual arts.

  • Lead project team in the development of objectives and creative parameters.

  • Managed communications between all partners in each city.

  • Identified creative professionals in film and music who are leaders in their field.

  • Managed the development of shared responsibilities between each city to ensure project success.

  • Directed the two live events (Capture Kick-Off, Capture Premiere Event) critical to the project.

  • Directed promotions, media events and advertising for Capture.

  • Lead community engagement in the project.

  • Engaged and contracted creative professionals for project production needs.

  • Contributed to the development of corporate sponsorship and foundation grant making for the project.

  • Research, schedule and coordinated the Capture Guest Juror and Guest Presenters.

PUBLISHING & EDITORIAL

The Pulse - Culture, Arts, City and Politics

I Co-Founded The Pulse Newsweekly in 2003. The publication and website was designed in the tradition of the 'Alternative Newsweekly' with it's focus on culture, the arts, music, civic topics and politics. The brand of The Pulse grew to be highly respected and it's editorial was considered an authority.

  • Built operations, creative staff, directed editorial focus and developed editorial products.

  • Managed production and deadlines for publications, editorial, and advertising supplement content, creative staff and freelance content talent.

  • Managed budgets, P&L and produced reporting.

  • Produced live events to engage business and creative leaders, enhance readership experiences and strengthen editorial brands.

  • Managed production processes with outside vendors.

  • Provide encouragement, guidance and support to creative staff and freelance talent.

For some insight, here is a link to an interview where I discuss The Pulse around it’s anniversary.

Here are a few examples of contributed editorial.

Eat Here Now

by Zachary Cooper

"There is a lot of investment riding on the food and beverage industry in our city. We get to take part in that engine of growth on a regular basis and we reap immediate rewards in the process. The fastest way to a city’s economic heart is, not surprisingly, its stomach."

Journalist eyes Chattanooga for Monocle report

by Zachary Cooper

"I’ve always liked curious problems—people finding quirky solutions to mysteries or finding out what actually happened at an event. It’s certainly driven by my own interests. I like to go talk to people and find out if there is more light I can shed on this problem."

Respect, Richly Deserved

by Zachary Cooper

"Wayne White has the extraordinary ability to work in set design, video, painting and sculpture, yet with each project he retains his own DNA. It’s all distinctly different, yet distinctly his."

Future Islands: Past, Present, Future

by Zachary Cooper

"Synthpop might be the easiest way to describe the distinct sound of their compositions, but Herring’s lyrics and vocals are a world unto itself."
